MIL Girls Basketball: LAHAINALUNA 63, Kamehameha Schools Maui 18 - December 28, 2011

Another dominating win by the Lady Lunas was dampened by what appears to be a serious knee injury to their senior leader Ana Lauese. Already hobbling from an injury to her left knee that she suffered in the pre-season, she appeared to reaggravate it in the second half while trying to go for a steal. It was sickening to see her crumpled on the floor in front of the Lunas bench. There was silence in the gym  - as if everyone was willing Ana to get up. SHe managed to get up, but she could put no weight on that leg and she needed assistance to get to the bench. Let's hope for a speedy recovery for Ms. Lauese - the heart and soul of the Lady Lunas.

The Lunas raced out to a 27-0 lead in the first half. Coach Rickard continues to employ a platoon system, substituting five at a time. It was shocking when Kamehameha scored their first points, then actually went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 27-9. But that was pretty much it for them.

The Lunas' Jade Chihara continues to be the hustler on the team, wreaking havoc on the other teams in the backcourt. She did a better job of finishing her shots this time. She, along with Loke Basques who plays a similar go-for-broke style when the second unit comes in, are definitely fun to watch. I wouldn't want to play against them though. Don't want to be embarrassed!
