Menehune Boys Basketball: Lahaina 25, Wailea 15 – February 23, 2012

What do you picture when you first see “WAILEA” on your sports schedule? For me, I pictured a bunch of rich, whiny, non-local, gated community raised, well-manicured, top of the line shoes and uniform-dressed kids with no game other than a golf or tennis game being dropped off by country club parents in their BMW or Mercedes SUV’s.

I was dead wrong. Much to my surprise, the Wailea team looked more local than a Wailuku team! We need to check residence cards to make sure they live in Wailea! Ha ha. This was more like Wailuku II team, since its colors resembled the maroon of Baldwin High School. They actually had a good team, and one especially good  player who could handle and make shots. Fortunately, Lahaina had a deeper team and pulled out the win. But you would think Lahaina would score 50 on Wailea just based on geographical reasons alone, right? Maybe playing at home at the Civic Center can be distracting.
