The girls had already clinched the top of the western
division and a spot in the MIL Team playoffs taking place at the end of the
week. The boys however had dropped 2 in a row and were facing the Maui High
boys for a do-or-die match to make it to the postseason.
Too add to the mix, Lahainaluna had protested their loss
to Maui Prep the week before because of Maui Prep’s use of an ineligible player
in their lineup. Apparently, the protest was upheld and the Lunas had an edge
over Maui Prep in terms of making it to the playoffs (I am not certain what
happened). In any event, despite losing 1-4 to Maui High, the boys still
qualified as the second team out of the west for the MIL team championships.
Alec Wagner was unavailable for today’s matches so it was fortunate that the
team still qualified without him.
