Got up to Lahainaluna after all day in Wailea and Wailuku
to shoot the boys’ home finale and senior game against Lanai. I had run into my
friend Rod Sumagit, who happens to be Lanai’s A.D., at the tennis tournament
and he asked if I could get some shots of his boys in action.
I got there at the end of the second set. Lunas had
already won the first set and were on their way to winning the second. Lanai
didn’t have too many tall players so physically, they were undersized against
the Lunas. They put up a valiant effort, especially in game 3, but the Lunas
managed to pull away with a 3-1 win: (1st
game score unknown), 25-14, 26-28, 25-15.
After the match, Coach Tommy Akima and team Mom Noe Akima
took time to honor the two seniors on the team: Kelii Uwekoolani and Spencer
Perieff. They also included Lanai in the festivities, honoring their senior
players as well.
This will be my final volleyball match for the year. The
MIL Tournament starts next week and will be played at the Lahaina Civic Center
(I love shooting at that venue!). Unfortunately, I will be flying to Chicago
for business on Monday and won’t be back until the weekend. So unless the Lunas
make it to the weekend (i.e., championship), this is my last volleyball game
for the school year. Good luck to Jonah, Kiko and the rest of the team.
