LAHAINALUNA FOOTBALL v. KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS MAUI W35-3 - October 6, 2012

GORGEOUS SUNSET BACKGROUND FROM KAMEHAMEHA MAUI CAMPUS FIELD

The Shutout Streak is over. Barely.

The Lunas remain undefeated at 6-0 in the MIL. They zipped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to some spectacular plays. On the second play of the game, Semisi Filikitonga intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yards for the touchdown. On the third play of the next possession, Kaimana Ancog intercepted the ball and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. After a 3 and out and a Sam Filiai sack (Sam was on fire tonight), Kiko Kohler-Fonohema connected with Semisi Filikitonga on a 43 yard touchdown pass, most of which consisted of Misi piling up yards-after-the-catch.

The Warriors score came thanks to some miscues by the Lunas offense, specifically fumbles in the Lunas own territory. The offense was not in sync coming out of halftime. Kiko fumbled and Kamehameha recovered near mid-field. They drove the ball down and were threatening to score, but the Lunas D-Line came up huge. They were stopped on downs, but Kiko fumbled again, this time at their own 19. Again the defense held but the Warriors managed to hit their 35-yard field goal.

Next game is a big rematch with Baldwin. Time to start a new streak. Time to lay claim to be undisputed MIL champs.

LAHAINALUNA JV FOOTBALL v. KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS MAUI W - October 6, 2012

What a long day. After shooting the girls JV volleyball at Seabury for 2-3 hours, I headed back home for a short rest then back up the mountain for JV and varsity football at Kamehameha. I thought the game supposed to start at 4:00pm . . . I get there at 3:45pm to shoot warm-ups and they're already starting the game! Frick!

I didn't go across the field to the Lahainaluna side. Shot from the Kamehameha side. Big difference in terms of sideline vibes. But it's all good. Obviously I avoided the mid-field bench area since it wasn't Lahainaluna. Too bad the weather was kinda voggy . . . not the background I wanted when shooting . . . too much white.

Golden hour was nice. Went to the Lahainaluna side after halftime and got some nice shots with a nice glow. Switched from the Sigma 120-300mm to the Nikon 70-200mm and got admittedly sharper and more colorful images. The background and setting sun definitely  helped.

Good to see Denton back from his east coast trip with his daughter's classmates.

As for the game, it was another dominating win for the Lunas. The man of the hour was again Sione Makoa Filikitonga. The defense was dominating but Kamehameha Maui scored when the back-up quarterback fumbled the ball and Kamehameha recovered it and returned it for a touchdown.
