MIL JV Boys Basketball: LAHAINALUNA 56, King Kekaulike 31 - November 5, 2011

After an opening night loss to Baldwin, the Lahainaluna JV Boys basketball team came back on consecutive nights to claim victories over Maui High and King Kekaulike at the Maui High Invitational JV Basketball tournament at Maui High.

Because of the football games against Baldwin I was unable to capture any of the action in the JV basketball game against Maui High on Friday.

When I arrived for tonight's game against King Kekaulike, I was greeted warmly by Coach Dan and Coach Johnny Agapay and the team, who were in the bleachers waiting for the Seabury Hall-Maui High game to end. They thanked me for the pictures and gave me high fives. That felt great! I jokingly reminded them to not worry about getting their picture taken or showing off for the camera but to concentrate on the game. I certainly did not want to be a distraction!

After King Kekaulike took a 4-0 lead, the Lunas stormed back with a swarming defense, great passing, filling the lanes and lay ups. During this time frame, power forward Brandon Agapay scored a flurry of points on fast break layups and power moves in the lane. It was nice to see him go straight up, rather than messing around with pump fakes and giving the defense time to crowd him. The Lunas pretty much stayed in control most of the game.

The Lunas were led by Josh Chapital with 20 points, Brandon Agapay with 8 and Cyrus Kama with 7. All eleven suited players played and nine of those scored. Great game all around.

Next up: Lahainaluna JV tournament at Lahainaluna on November 10-12.
