In their season finale, the JV Boys went up against Baldwin - the only team they had not beaten all year. After leading the game for most of three quarters, Baldwin eventually took the lead and held on for a 43-38 win.
The Lunas started off very well, penetrating inside and finding the big guys for easy layups. Those opportunities disappeared in the second half. Meanwhile, the coaches decided to start Sima Galaioa in the second half and force the ball on every play into him on the inside. In a close game like this against a rival like Baldwin, this is NOT the time to start experimenting. While Sima has a lot of upside, he is still very inexperienced when it comes to basketball IQ and understanding the situations. The flow of the offense, and whatever momentum they had in the first half, was disrupted because of the concerted effort to force feed the ball down low. The offense became stagnant. This allowed Baldwin to come back and take the lead.
THe Lunas battled back. Down by only one point, Brandon Agapay made a steal and raced down court for a lay-up. He was challenged by Baldwin's Denzell Quiones, who clearly hacked Brandon on the forearm. The refs did not call it. They only had 2 working this game - and both were out of shape, old and slow.
Oh well, better luck next year. Get those wins when you varsity!
NO FOUL WAS CALLED ON THIS PLAY . . . COULD'VE GIVEN THE LUNAS THE LEAD |
