For the second week in a row, the JV Lunas went up against a bigger and
stronger team in Maui High. Unlike last week’s loss to Baldwin, this time the
Lunas hung tough and held on to a gritty, 7-6 win.
Lahainaluna took the lead 7-0 on a rushing touchdown by Elijah Ragudo
with 7:33 left in the 2nd quarter.
Maui High opened up the second half with a drive that utilized its big
boys well. They wore down the smaller Lunas en route to a touchdown to make it
7-6. Maui High decided to go for the two-point conversion to take the lead, but
Elijah Ragudo burst through the line and stopped the Maui High runner for a
loss.
The Lunas held on for the win with outstanding, tough-nosed defense.
Maui High threatened late, but a field goal attempt on third down with time
running out fell short and the Lunas could finally celebrate the win.
