LAHAINALUNA JV FOOTBALL: v. Kapaa Warriors (Preseason) W15-0 (August 17, 2013)

It was a high school football triple-header at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku. The Lahainaluna JV football team took on the JV Warriors of Kapa'a at 2:00pm, followed by their respective varsity brethren at 4:30pm. The nightcap featured a game between Maui High and Konawaena.

The JV Lunas debuted with a solid 15-0 win over the visiting Kapa'a Warriors. The Lunas seemed to have half the team in street clothes - a result of grades and injuries.

At first glance, many of the Warriors looked physically advanced for their ages. Nevertheless, the Lunas prevailed.

Standouts for the game were: sophomore wide receiver and defense end Kalalani Kaaikala-Caban, who made several spectacular catches including a nice over the shoulder catch for a touchdown. He also made some key stops in the backfield defensively.

Freshmen running backs Kaya Phillips bruised his way up the middle for a bunch of yards.

Fellow freshman Radon Sinenci slashed his way for some yardage before breaking out with a long run in the 4th.

Next game for the JV is the MIL season opener against Kamehameha Schools Maui on August 31.

Welcome back assistant coach Chris Pino, fresh off the plane and a successful stint with the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League. They fell one game short of making the AFL championship. Soon he and his wife, trainer Mikala Pino, will welcome a new addition.
